HELP! HEEEELP!!!
Last week we have suffered the great patriotic act of the 30th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. Guess what the brilliant idea was?
... the idea was to bring the constitution closer to the people, specially the younger ones I assume, who are not interested at all in politics.
You will never guess it - unless you achieve to decrease your brain to a minimum state of a flea's.
First they wanted Spanish celebrities (like Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso and intellectuals of this level) to READ the constitution. As the celebrities declined the honour and the neverending boredom it must be, some great mind has had the idea of making young pupil read the constitution, all children of around 15 years of age! This is brilliant! What a genius! That is the best way of getting the constitution to the people: obliging youngsters of an age in which they certainly won't understand one word of what they have to read (as it is always only the first sentence that makes sense, when read aloud), to READ the wonderful constitution during I don't know how many hours to ... ah, yes to who? ... to themselves!!!! ... probably this brilliant mind thought that at least they are not on the streets boozing or rioting as it happened in Greece the day after.
(Please have a look at these excellent sites for the "Spanish Constitution":
http://www.constitucion.es (no wonder the students didn't understand a word!) and http://narros.congreso.es/constitucion/constitucion/indice/index.htm)
How can some people be so incredibly stupid? ... and how is it possible that someone with this kind of ideas even gets the right of opening his mouth in public and on top of it this person is even obeyed?
Sometimes I really doubt that freedom of speech or freedom of opinion are any good, if you hear (and suffer) the tremendous stupidities of people like that.
But today, just two days later, I hear on the radio that Spain was celebrating the 60th anniversary of declaration of the Human Rights. I was really looking forward to knowing how this great day would be celebrated.
Another excellent and brilliant mind (or maybe it was even the same thinker) came up with the following idea (which has been carried out): take a couple of 15 year old students and get them to read the Human Rights Charter (http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html)!
... I almost crashed into the truck that was coming towards me, but on purpose!
What most disappointed me was that I heard no one say anything about the issue. None of my friends, none of the other parents at my daughter's school. Nothing.
I don't think this is the way to go if you want to make politics popular among the younger ones. ... but well, Spain is different.

UNICEF study on values of German children
Watch this "Article" (in German) on a study developed by UNICEF and GEO-lino: http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/content/645146?inPopup=true) where the value of children (between 6 and 14) are
Friendship 76%
Security 58% and
Honesty 54%,
whereas
"order" and "belief" are important to only 21% and
"the ability of imposing oneself" is only important to 20%!
WOW!
This is great news! ... did anybody ask the children if they even knew what "belief" and "Durchsetzungfähigkeit" (the ability of imposing oneself) mean.
We have spend another fortune for another useless study with useless results which conclusions (which ever they may be) we will spend another fortune for, in order to make a further useless study with more useless results.
... but as long as we spend the money on children it is well-spent.
Please, stop wasting money on studies which results one can grasp by common sense. I am aware that many scientists do not count with "common sense" as they live in their ivory towers, but there has to be somebody within UNICEF to say: "let's not waste our money on finding out the values of children in Germany, there are places on earth where this money is better spent, and if we have to spend this money on German children, let's develop a program for the loads of children who grow up in misery (yes, they do exist, even in Germany)."
