HELP! HEEEELP!!!
Last week we have suffered the great patriotic act of the 30th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. Guess what the brilliant idea was?
... the idea was to bring the constitution closer to the people, specially the younger ones I assume, who are not interested at all in politics.
You will never guess it - unless you achieve to decrease your brain to a minimum state of a flea's.
First they wanted Spanish celebrities (like Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso and intellectuals of this level) to READ the constitution. As the celebrities declined the honour and the neverending boredom it must be, some great mind has had the idea of making young pupil read the constitution, all children of around 15 years of age! This is brilliant! What a genius! That is the best way of getting the constitution to the people: obliging youngsters of an age in which they certainly won't understand one word of what they have to read (as it is always only the first sentence that makes sense, when read aloud), to READ the wonderful constitution during I don't know how many hours to ... ah, yes to who? ... to themselves!!!! ... probably this brilliant mind thought that at least they are not on the streets boozing or rioting as it happened in Greece the day after.
(Please have a look at these excellent sites for the "Spanish Constitution":
http://www.constitucion.es (no wonder the students didn't understand a word!) and http://narros.congreso.es/constitucion/constitucion/indice/index.htm)
How can some people be so incredibly stupid? ... and how is it possible that someone with this kind of ideas even gets the right of opening his mouth in public and on top of it this person is even obeyed?
Sometimes I really doubt that freedom of speech or freedom of opinion are any good, if you hear (and suffer) the tremendous stupidities of people like that.
But today, just two days later, I hear on the radio that Spain was celebrating the 60th anniversary of declaration of the Human Rights. I was really looking forward to knowing how this great day would be celebrated.
Another excellent and brilliant mind (or maybe it was even the same thinker) came up with the following idea (which has been carried out): take a couple of 15 year old students and get them to read the Human Rights Charter (http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html)!
... I almost crashed into the truck that was coming towards me, but on purpose!
What most disappointed me was that I heard no one say anything about the issue. None of my friends, none of the other parents at my daughter's school. Nothing.
I don't think this is the way to go if you want to make politics popular among the younger ones. ... but well, Spain is different.
